Plagiarism
KJISE: Kiswah Journal of Islamic Studies and Education upholds the highest academic integrity standards and strictly prohibits all forms of plagiarism. Authors are expected to submit original, research-based, and previously unpublished work. Any violation of this policy will result in immediate rejection or retraction of the article.
1. Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
- Direct plagiarism: Copying text, ideas, or research findings from other sources without proper citation.
- Self-plagiarism: Republishing one’s own previously published work without significant modification or proper citation.
- Paraphrasing plagiarism: Rewriting someone else’s work with minor changes but without citation.
- Mosaic plagiarism: Combining different sources without proper acknowledgment.
- Improper citation: Using incorrect or incomplete references that mislead the reader.
2. Plagiarism Detection
- All submitted manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software before undergoing the peer review process.
- The acceptable similarity index must be below 20%, excluding properly cited references.
- If plagiarism is detected at any stage (submission, review, or after publication), the following actions will be taken:
- Below 20%: Authors may be asked to revise and provide proper citations.
- 20%-40%: Immediate revision is required; failure to comply results in rejection.
- Above 40%: The manuscript will be rejected without review, and the author may be blacklisted from future submissions.
3. Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is confirmed, KJISE will take the following actions:
- Before publication: The manuscript will be rejected and removed from the editorial process.
- After publication:
- The article will be retracted from the journal website and relevant academic databases.
- Authors will be banned from submitting to KJISE for a minimum of two years.
- The author’s institution may be notified about the ethical violation.
4. How to Avoid Plagiarism
To ensure compliance with KJISE’s ethical standards, authors should:
- Properly cite all sources using Chicago 17th edition style.
- Use plagiarism detection tools (Turnitin, iThenticate, Grammarly, etc.) before submission.
- Ensure originality by contributing new insights rather than merely summarizing existing research.
